Bio: Vancouver is a coastal city located in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada. It is named for British Captain George Vancouver, who explored and first mapped the area in the 1790s.
Vancouver is the eighth most populous city in Canada with a population of 578,041. The city is ethnically and linguistically diverse; More than half of the city’s residents do not speak English as their first language. Nearly one-third of the city’s inhabitants are of Chinese heritage.
Forestry is Vancouver’s largest industry, but the city is also known as an urban center surrounded by nature, making tourism its second-largest industry. It also is the third-largest film production center in North America behind Los Angeles and New York City, earning its film industry the nickname “Hollywood North.”
